How we choose

Editorial policy

Not everything qualifies as a Gem.

The standards used to research, label and update Gems of Malaysia recommendations.

01

A Gem of Malaysia

An independently selected feature about a place, person, business or tradition. This distinction cannot be purchased.

  • Public and responsible access where relevant
  • Verifiable Malaysian context
  • A clear reason the subject matters
  • Honest limitations and current status
02

How we tell Malaysian Originals

Every Malaysian Original is written as a sourced story: an opening scene, the people and place behind it, cultural context for readers who may not know Malaysia, the tension or turning point, and a clear account of why the story travels. Narrative never outranks evidence. Each profile ends by separating what the public record establishes from what remains a claim, gap or question.

03

Picks by Gems of Malaysia

A product, stay or experience may be selected when its provenance, traveller fit, usefulness and current availability can be explained. A commission does not determine selection.

04

Featured Partner

Paid participation is labelled Featured Partner close to the relevant content. Sponsorship does not guarantee positive coverage or an editorial badge.

05

Research and corrections

We favour first-party and official sources, review date-sensitive advice and distinguish established facts from editorial judgement. Material errors are corrected without silently changing the editorial record.

06

Sensitive places

We do not publish private access, illegal routes or precise coordinates for fragile locations merely to attract traffic. Community and conservation considerations take priority.
